Our Words Are Powerful
Have you ever noticed how much scripture is focused on taming the tongue? Jesus taught on it, the apostles wrote it, and even today it continues to be a challenge for most of us. The book of James reminds us that a rudder is such a small part of a large ship, yet it steers the ship with ease – and so, our tongue is such a small part of our body, yet with it can cause us so much difficulty.
Being in any type of ministry is hard. However, in technical ministry we often work long hours (many of them late) and find ourselves working as our bodies are exhausted. We are so much more susceptible to our tongue getting us in trouble when we are tired.
Ephesians, chapter 4 verses 1-6 remind us reminds us to walk in humility, gentleness and forbear with each other in love. When we find ourselves focusing on ourself instead of others we often find we are out of step with God’s desire for us in our life.
I urge you to take a moment and ask God if there are areas in your life that he needs to show you to help you walk in humility and gentleness. Ask what you can do to bring yourself more in line with the person he wants you to be and to help you tame your tongue to speak words of love and edification.
The better we get at this the more we see God move in our life and the more peace that surrounds us.
