This past weekend I’ve been reflecting about what gives me passion. I’m passionate about good sound and quality mixing. I’m passionate about helping connect people to God, and I understand how being involved in media ministry helps me do this. I hope you do as well.
I’ve been around so many churches that simply choose someone to go “baby sit” the board. Often at the sacrifice of good sound. I’ve met so many sound engineers over the years that believe their job is simply to turn on the system and unmute some microphones. Beyond that, it really “is what it is”.
I believe this is so unfortunate. Like any ministry position in church, media ministry should be enacted by someone who is called to do so. Someone who is passionate and loves what media represents to furthering the Gospel message.
Many people I have met over the years have this passion, but lack the training. Others lack the passion and should likely be serving in another area of ministry – one that matches their gifts and allows them to be passionate.
If you are involved in media ministry at your church, I urge you to be passionate. Take every second of the service and find yourself in command of the sound or visual you are in charge of. Pay attention to detail and strive for excellence.
Media ministry allows us the opportunity to reach the masses. More so than any other time in history our talents can be used to connect people to freedom, joy and peace. It’s an exciting time to be involved in media ministry. Ask yourself, “do I have passion?”
