Overview
The ETC D60 LED is truly the king of LED’s. I recently got my hands on one to review, and I have to tell you – it was impressive.
Color Mixing
The D60 offers a game changing 7-color mix engine. This gives you amazing color mixing capabilities. The fixture gives further diversity with it’s interchangeable lens kits. With the placement of the lens in front of the LED, the image becomes very stable. The lens all but eliminates any type of artifacting in the shadows.
Lens Kits
Furthermore, the lens kits provide a different pattern so the fixture offers a lot of diversity – you can choose from very narrow, narrow, medium and wide round and extra wide – as well as narrow, medium and wide oval patterns. This helps the fixture match a modern day par can as well as the old standard PAR 64. This gives designers a lot of choices in how the fixture presents itself in the design.
Brightness and Dimming Curve
The fixture is super bright. It’s easily comparable to the 750W Source Four PAR. When paired with conventional fixtures you will find that you have to dim the D60 so it doesn’t over power them.
Another shortcoming of some LED fixtures is their dimming curve – in particular their ability to smoothly dim the last 10% of the curve on a slow fade. Not the case with the D60. The fixture dims as smoothly as a conventional fixture on a high quality dimmer.
Other features
The easy to read menu on the back makes programming a breeze, and the displays turn off so they don’t distract while operating. The fixtures are fan cooled, but the fans are super quiet. More so, they can be controlled via DMX so you can turn them on and off at will, and include a set point for them to turn on in case the fixture gets to a temperature beyond your preset.
