In this economy, anything you can do to save money is a good thing. One way to save money is to do in-house repairs on your A/V equipment when you can. I’ve found over the years that having a solid workbench that one can use is critical in making efficient time of repairs.
The workbench featured here is simple to construct, and can be made very inexpensively. It can easily fit in a small room or a large closet. It makes for a great place to fix cables and other equipment.
The plans above show the basics of construction. The image to the right shows a finished product. You’ll notice the strategic placement of the trash can (and also the matching desk height). To the left are bins that hold critical parts and tools. The peg board straight ahead holds the common tools used for repairs. The bench is big enough for the soldering station, a vise, and to work on most repair items.
If you have a small closet area with a little room, this is an ideal solution for saving a lot of money and doing in-house repairs!
