Sinus Season Is Here

by: Brad Herring

Neti-Pot
It's that time of year again. Sinus infections can hit at the worst time. Perhaps one of the Sound Engineer's worst enemies. The sinus infection causes hearing issues, and you just feel yucky in general.

Last year my Ear Nose and Throat doctor suggested I begin using the Neti-Pot. While reluctant at first, I decided to go ahead and give it a try. The device is simple enough. It's basically a pot that holds distilled water and a salt-like solution that you add to it. Mix well, and well... place it in one nostril, tilt your head, and lift the pot.

What follows is not glamourous. The water/salt solution flows through the nasal passage, in one side and out the other flushing your sinuses. The result is near nirvana. I'm told that using this twice a day will help clear up a sinus infection in record time - also, using it as prevention can go a long way too.

It's also worth mentioning that this product is sold by many manufactures under different names, but ultimately they all do the same thing. Some use a squirt style bottle and others use the traditional pot. It's a non-forceful way of cleaning the sinuses and helping to get you back on track. You should not use this product if your sinuses are clogged. Again - read the instructions folks. This is not a "How To" article, but a product awareness piece that we believe is helpful.

Most doctors I've talked to praise this product as a preventative method more than anything. You know the allergy and sinus season is coming, go ahead and be proactive. There's nothing worse than trying to mix with clogged ears and sinus headaches. Take care of yourself so you can be at your best.

This product review is not intended to be used as medical advice. This is an over-the-counter product. As always, follow the directions and check with your doctor if you have any questions.

As a sinus sufferer myself, this product has helped me a lot. While a bit of an unorthodox "product review" I thought I'd pass it along.
